ABOUT ABOUT

Come see an International selection of one dozen short films at the 2019 Short Film Slam: Round I. Attendees get to cast a vote for their favorite films among an eclectic mix of genres during this tournament style showcase presented by The Madlab Post.

From the triumphant in Iranian director Meysam Babaei’s Olympics documentary Archer to Valerie Resciniti’s student drama Limbo, the strength and resiliency of everyday people are tested through stories about overcoming life-altering challenges.

Local films made in Philadelphia will also be on view including Jon Rehr’s documentary Justin Geller - Thought It Would Be A Good Story about 10 year-old sperm that ended up taking a man diagnosed with a super rare form of leukemia on an unexpected ride and Kyasia M. Thomas’ faith-based drama Only You Know, in which a husband and father struggles to remain prayerful when hard times get even harder.

Our Round I lineup also features Steve Anderson and Judith Eisenberg’s quirky comedy The Secret Lives of Teachers, about finding unexpected love through a shared passion for a very unique hobby. New York maintains its strong presence in this year’s showcase with Tanya Huston’s new comedy The Deadbeat, Adrian Carey’s fantasy drama Mariposas and Isobella Antelis’ school drama Blue Toes; while David Schell’s student drama Darkroom (starring Phillip E. Walker) and Julia Walker’s animated tale Under the Weather bring non-traditional characters into the mix. Grab your seat today to see what else is in store!
